Dons v London Skolars 05/04/2010 - Co-operative Championship One - Match Preview.
Match Previews Next up are two fixtures which offer confidence boosting opportunities for the players and hopefully something for the faithful to cheer.

The Dons currently sit ninth in an eleven team league but face the two teams below them in back-to-back fixtures. Gateshead Thunder will host the Dons next weekend but first the London Skolars visit the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Skolars are currently coached by former Harlequins reserves coach James Massara and count one-time Doncaster forward Joe Mbu amongst their backroom staff. Mbu was one of the high profile signings when the then 'Lakers' moved to the Keepmoat Stadium for the start of the 2007 Season.

This season has so far been one of disappointment for the team from the capital city with only one bonus point against Gateshead to show for five league fixtures, four straight defeats in the Northern Rail Cup and a Challenge Cup exit at home to French raiders Limoux.

Paul Thorman, another member of Massara's staff and also Club Captain, will look to direct the play for the Skolars who have three players in their ranks who have pulled on a Doncaster shirt. Former Dons Academy Player of the Season Austin Aggrey, the Skolars leading tryscorer in the professional era, is one option on the wing as is Ade Adebisi who has had spells at Featherstone Rovers and Whitehaven since leaving the Keepmoat Stadium. Luke May, a Dons loanee from Harlequins, is likely to start in the centre.

A number of players, quite understandably, have been recruited from the Harlequins reserves / academy and these include winger Dave Arnot, second row forwards Matthew Carter and Oliver Purslow, prop forward James Simon and half back or hooker Liam Prescott. Imports include Australian full back Joshua Welsh and fellow countryman and prop forward Liam Roach, whilst a couple of players to watch out for are former GB Student international Curtis Cunningham signed from Celtic Crusaders, who may operate at either full back or centre and Matt Thomas, a Welsh International, who was the Skolars leading tryscorer in 2009.

For Tony Miller, the question must be, do the seventeen on duty at the South Leeds Stadium get a chance to redeem themselves or is it time to make a few changes? Aaron Henry, Jarryn Osbourne and Scott Johnson are current notable absentees who may be options.
