Dons v Blackpool Panthers 24/03/2010 - Northern Rail Cup - Match Preview.
Match Previews The Dons run without a win continues but performances in the two games since the Challenge Cup defeat to Siddal would appear to offer promise.

Blackpool Panthers were without a game last weekend with their intended fixture away at Oldham having been re-arranged for June as the Roughyeds continue to seek opportunities to play 'home' fixtures with Boundary Park no longer available to them.

The Panthers most recent outing was a league fixture at home to Rochdale Hornets on Friday 12 March which resulted in a comfortable 36-14 victory where seven tries were shared amongst six scorers.

New owner Bobby Hope has backed the Flyde-coast Club financially and allowed former Warrington and Wigan star Martin Crompton to assemble a squad which should be challenging for honours in Championship One after Northern Rail Nines success last year.

Eye-catching signings include former Huddersfield Giants back Tom Hemingway and winger or centre Paul Ballard who was playing at Super League level with Celtic Crusaders last season. Former Halifax and Leigh Centurions prop forward Andy Hobson will add steel to a pack which also includes former Saint Helens reserve Kurt Haggerty. John Clough, Carl Forber and Casey Mayberry all have experience at a higher level as do former Dons duo Paul Anderson and Damien Monroe who were at the Keepmoat Stadium during the brief John Stankevitch era.

Crompton has also moved to bring on board Wigan Warriors youngsters Neil Holland and Chris Tuson who both made their Blackpool debuts in the win over Rochdale, with prop forward Holland amongst the try-scorers.

The Dons had Nick Cooper on debut against Swinton Lions at the weekend and the winger obliged with one of the six tries scored in the 36-30 defeat. Other tries came from Lee Gomersall (2), Paul Shaw, Danny Allen and Tommy Griffiths.

On the injury front, second row forward Liam Brown returned at Park Lane and prop forward Danny Stanley may figure against the Panthers but Tony Miller continues to be without the services of playmakers Grant Edwards and Craig Fawcett, three quarter Aaron Henry and prop forward Scott Johnson.
